Last week I posted about a self help video I had watched, and how it lead me to write that post. It’s also lead me to write this post about Craft commitment. He listed three things that keep us from getting the things we really want. The first thing is The Present. By this, I mean the mindset you have that keeps you from seeing the opportunities around you. I talked about that in the last post.
The second thing he talked about, is Your Wants. It seems odd to say that wanting something may be keeping you from getting it, so let me explain.
Everyone wants things, no matter what we have, we’re never satisfied. We want a bigger house, or a nicer car, a better job, or even a million dollars. I’m not saying this is what you want, I’m just saying these are examples of things people generally desire.
It’s fine to want things, but that’s where the trouble starts. Once you decide you want something, you start to look at the work involved in getting it, or how others might judge you for having it, or what is the best way to go about getting it? This last one is my favorite, since it definitely applies to me. I’ll give you an example:
I currently have my first class about 80% done, and ready to put out. The problem is that it’s been about 80% done for months now. You see, the hard part of shooting and editing the video has been done, but because I want to make sure that I give you as much value in the class as I possibly can, it’s lead to delays while I try to make software work the way I need it to. Delays while I add more content to the class. Delays while I think about what more I can add. Delays, delays, delays.
This is what’s called Analysis Paralysis. You spend so much time thinking, and tweaking, that you never really get anything done. It happens to all of us.
You may be at the point where you’ve decide that you want to be a Witch, or perhaps you’ve decided that you want to be a better Witch. Great! Again, this is where the trouble starts, and it starts with the simplest, one-word question. How?
How do I become a Witch? How do I learn? Do I find a teacher? How do I find a teacher? Is this really for me? What if I’m wrong? What will my friends and family think? What if I’m no good at it? These are the things that create roadblocks to following through. This doesn’t just happen for spiritual matters, it occurs in every aspect of your life, when you desire something you don’t currently have. Think about all the things you desire, and realize the reasons you haven’t gotten them.
It all comes down to fear. Fear of failure. Fear of success. Fear of what if.
Fortunately, the solution to the problem, no matter what the desire, is the same. Commitment.
When you commit to something, you do so whole heartedly. You make a choice. You decide to do whatever it takes, no matter the work, the odds, or the sacrifice. This is also how you find out what you truly desire, as opposed to what you simply would like. If you can make the commitment to make it happen, it will happen. It’s what Witches call “manifesting”.
This is the heart of magick. In order to manifest anything, you must commit to making it happen. In order to commit, you must truly want it. No matter what it is, if you want it badly enough, you will get it, because you have committed yourself to getting it.
You really want to be a Witch? Commit to being a Witch! Stop asking how, or what if, and commit to being a Witch right now. Read every book you can get your hand on. Look through every website Google can find. Learn how a Witch lives, and commit to living that life. Learn what a Witch does, and commit to doing that.
If you want to be a better Witch, commit to figuring out what better means to you. If it’s magick, commit to learning every form of magick you can. If it’s spiritual, commit to learning how to think in a more spiritual way. If it’s lifestyle, commit to living the way a better Witch does.
Commit to making your Craft the best it can be.
Commit to making yourself the best you can be.
The only thing keeping you from everything you’ve ever wanted, is you.
