When I talk about how magick is all around us, all the time, I notice there are always those people, who give me a look of, “yeah, sure.” They have closed their minds to the idea that we live in a magickal world, and that’s fine. I’m not here to convince anyone, of anything. I will point out however, that in a Universe where there is no such thing as coincidence, there sure seem to be a lot of them.
I spent Saturday at a local Pagan event, called Paths and Traditions Fair. It has been put on for the last five years, but my friends, Chris and Kelley. The entire idea of the fair, is to take people who know something, put them all in a place where those who are looking, can find them, and let things happen.
One of the great things about this event, is that I get to see a bunch of people I’ve known for years, and find out what’s been going on in their lives. The other great thing about this fair, is I get to meet a lot of new people, who are looking for answers, and help them find their Path. Many of the participants of the Fair are looking for new students. I’m not. I’m simply there to answer what questions I can. If I end up getting a new student, that’s great.
So last week, as I was getting mentally prepared for the Fair on Saturday, I was thinking back over the years, and the people who are now friends, that I’d met at the fair. I was thinking about this year’s Fair, and silently wondering who I might meet this year. Without thought or warning, I suddenly got an extremely clear image of a woman’s face. She was very pretty, she appeared to be in her 40’s, and blonde.
I’ve learned over the years, that you ignore these sorts of things at your own peril. Whoever she is, this woman is significant in some way. My first thought was possibly romantic. She was very pretty, and I’m single. And I’m male.
Witches always pay attention.
I filed the image of this woman, whoever she was, in the back of my mind, and went on with my normal routine. I didn’t think about the vision again, I would find out more once I met her. It was never a question of if I would meet her, it was just a matter of when. Since I had been thinking about the Paths and Traditions Fair, I figured it would be sometime Saturday.
Saturday morning came, and I packed the gear I was going to take, in my car. I drove down to the site, grabbed a table in my usual spot, and started setting up. I joked with Chris, that it had snowed the prior night, and wondered how many nature worshipping Witches it would keep away. I’ve learned over the years, that weather, oddly makes Witches decide to stay in.
I got my table situated, and then started walking around the Fair, giving out hugs to those I know, and catching up with them. If you’ve ever worked a table at such an event, you know that catching up with friends you haven’t seen, is a big part of going.
The Fair opened, and people started to trickle in. Last year’s attendance was anemic for some reason, no one really knows why. There have been years where so many people showed up, there was standing room only, and people had to wait their turn, to talk to those at a table about what it is they do. This year’s attendance was better than last year, but not even close to capacity. Still, it was an enjoyable time.
The morning went by without event. I talked to a few people as they wandered through past my table. Most were looking for something, they just didn’t know what. That’s not unusual. They know there’s something here, they just don’t know what. I try to ask clarifying questions, get them to talk about their expectations, and then answer the questions that come up.
I was scheduled to give a presentation at 1:30, so I headed down the hall to the Presentation Room. I waited there until about 10 minutes after my presentation was to start. No one showed up. That’s fine. I usually get at least one or two people, but there’s a lot to do, and a limited amount of time. Since no one showed up, I headed back to my table.
Patience is a virtue.
I sat behind my table, and talked to those who wandered by. I looked at the clock above the door every so often, keeping track of the time. People came and went, some stopping to talk, others moving from the Druids next to me, to the Druids across the room. The Shamans on the other side of me were getting quite a bit of attention.
At 2:30, I felt something. I looked up, and saw a woman walk in, and stop at the first table. The table was across the room from me, so her back was to me. She chatted with the lady at the table, without sitting down. She turned to walk on, and quickly looked around the room. She was the woman I had seen in my mind.
I watched her, as she made her way around the circular room. Yeah, I know how stalkery that sounds, but I was really just monitoring her progress. It’s not like I was staring at her the whole time. There were several Seekers in the room, but no one was at my table. She moved from table to table, talking briefly with the people at each. She was walking the tables Deocil, around the room. She walked to the Druids next to me, and I waited while she listened to them.
As she came to my table, seeming uninterested in what she was experiencing. I smiled and greeted her. I asked her what brought her to the Fair. She told me that she had come to meet a friend, who was supposed to be there, but hadn’t shown yet. I invited her to take a seat. By this point, being male, I had already noticed the wedding ring on her finger. Ok, this wasn’t going to be romantic.
We started talking. I quickly looked up at the clock above the door. 3:00, an hour until the Fair closed. She had long, platinum blonde hair, blue gray eyes, and was stunningly beautiful. Her name was Christie. She had said that the Fair wasn’t what she had expected. I asked what she had expected, and she described something a little more flashy.
Time flies.
I smiled at her description, and clarified questioningly, “More New Age?” She smiled and nodded. I told her that we are more Old Age, which got a laugh. I went about drawing out what she was looking for. She told me that she was a Reiki worker. I told her that I was familiar with it, but never studied it. I do however have several friends who are Reiki Masters.
She went on to tell me that a woman she works with, claims to be a Witch, and is known for putting “spells” on co-workers. I asked if these spells were positive or negative, she confirmed they were negative. She also said the woman claimed to be her friend, but she always felt drained after talking with her.
I explained that usually, those who claim such ability, have none, so I wouldn’t worry about hexes. I also said that this woman might be an energy vampire, who sucks energy from others. I taught Christie how to create a basic shield, I used the example of a force field, to describe how it would work. I also told her that by changing it from a force field, to a mirror, if she felt attacked, she could send any negative energy back to its source.
We talked about many things. I told her about a book I had just read, and how it wasn’t written by a magickal person, but was the original text on manifestation, and how to manifest whatever you desire. She had already grabbed one of my business cards, and was furiously jotting notes, as I talked. Once we started talking, she relaxed, and really seemed to enjoy the conversation.
As we talked, it was if we were the only two people in the universe. It was one of those conversations where your full attention is on the person across from you, and the conversation just moves. Time is no longer relevant. The only thing that exists, is the conversation.
At some point, I started to notice others packing up their tables. Christie and I were still deep in conversation. I glanced up at the clock, it was just a couple of minutes before 4:00. End of Fair. Christie also noticed the activity. She told me that she had really enjoyed the conversation, and hoped she hadn’t missed her friend. I told her that I didn’t know what her friend looked like, so I couldn’t help.
“She’s six foot four,” I replied that I would have noticed that. Being 6’4”, I always notice a tall woman. Christie amended that her friend might not be that tall, but that she was very tall. I jokingly asked if she was single, “She was the last time I talked to her.” Christie smiled. I encouraged her to take a business card for her friend as well, and that she was welcome to use the email address to contact me later.
There’s no such thing as coincidence.
I headed home from the event. Just after I walked through the door, I got a text from my friend Autumn, saying that she hadn’t meant to leave without saying goodbye, but that I was deep in conversation, and she didn’t want to interrupt.
I still don’t know what significance Christie has, I just know that we were supposed to meet. We both enjoyed the conversation, and if I have the chance, I will gladly talk to her again. She’s married, so a romantic relationship is not what this is about. She is going to play a part in my future plans, I know this without a doubt, I just don’t know what that role will be.
To have seen her face, days before I met her, might seem like coincidence. To have her show up at an event, not because she wanted to go to the event, but because she wanted to see a friend, might seem like a coincidence. Then to have the friend not show, and leave her to fend for herself in unfamiliar surroundings, well, Christie did tell me that her friend does tend to do that.
Even so, there are an awful lot of “coincidences” here. Any Witch who’s been around, will tell you, there’s no such thing as coincidence. There is only a reason you don’t yet understand. I didn’t write this, just to expose my lack of a love life. I wrote it because it is a prime example of the Universe helping you manifest.
The Universe doesn’t just manifest abundance and happiness out of thin air. The Universe presents you with opportunities to manifest whatever you desire. You have to be observant enough to notice the opportunities. Sometimes, like what I described, it kicks you in the back of the head. That doesn’t happen very often. Most of the time, the opportunity is subtle, and easily missed.
You have to be observant enough to see the opportunity for what it is, then have the foresight to act on the opportunity before it leaves. Christie and I were meant to meet, and talk, Saturday afternoon. We’ve started the process of becoming friends. We like each other. What this will lead me to, I have no idea. What I do know, is that it is related to one of the things I am trying to manifest. I’ll be interested to read her email, when she sends it.
What opportunities have you acted on, or completely missed, only to realize too late? Do you believe in coincidence? If so, what do you think about the events I’ve described? Let me know in the comments below.

I very much enjoyed this blog as I do all of your blogs, but this one in particular resonated with my own personal experiences. What you said is very true, if you do not believe in magick then you greatly limit your options of encountering it or recognizing it when it manifests into your life. Magick is part of life and coincidences are signposts that magic is afoot and alive all around us, but more importantly, they are triggers of awareness that heighten our perception of the world around us to events or people that are intended by “Spirit” to play a role in our lives. To ignore these coincidences, omens, or visions is a loss of opportunity, some of which could be life-changing. Many of these coincidences are very subtle and usually shrugged off by most. Then there are those, such as Ken’s vision, that must not be discarded. This encounter with Christie is one to pay close attention to and let unfold in any manner that “Spirit” sets forth. Often these encounters are for one person or the other and sometimes both. I can fully understand the gravitation toward a romantic inclination as those of us that are single have that urge to complete the circle so to speak. If it is not of a personal nature, it would be most interesting to see where this particular path leads. I have had two such encounters in my life and both have been life-changing, neither were romantic, unfortunately, but life-changing just the same. My life was also saved twice by other similar coincidences or omens, but those are stories for another time and place. Be aware for magick is always afoot. It is what makes this world we live in so mysterious, alive and magnificent!
I have often said that a Witch is observant. We observe not just the changing seasons, but the everyday things in our lives. It is by noticing, and recognizing these things, that we discover opportunity. Opportunity doesn’t knock, as Napoleon Hill pointed out, it slinks in through the window, and leaves just as quietly.
